FREE CONSULTATIONS
Ashley F. Morgan Law, PC uses modern software and artificial intelligence tools to serve our clients more efficiently. We believe in being transparent about how we work, so here is what you should know.
We use a range of professional and AI-enabled tools in our practice, including products such as Claude (Anthropic), Gemini (Google), and Zoom, along with other secure platforms for document management, communication, and case work. The specific tools we use may change over time as technology evolves.
The AI and software tools we use are commercial- or enterprise-grade products — not the free, public versions available to consumers. That distinction matters. Under the commercial agreements that govern our accounts:
All AI-assisted work is reviewed by a licensed attorney before it influences any advice, filing, or decision in your case. AI helps us work faster and more thoroughly — it does not replace the judgment of your attorney. Our staff is trained on the appropriate use of these tools and on protecting client confidentiality. Our use of these tools does not change our professional obligations to you under the Virginia Rules of Professional Conduct, including the duties of competence, confidentiality, communication, and loyalty.
Because of how these tools are configured, the information you share with us remains protected by attorney-client privilege.
Attorney-client privilege is powerful, but it can be lost. If you use a consumer AI tool — such as the free or personal versions of ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Grok, or similar products — to ask questions about your case, summarize your documents, or draft messages related to your legal matter, you may unintentionally waive your privilege.
These consumer platforms can store, review, and use what you type. Courts have begun to find that sharing case information with a consumer AI tool can amount to disclosing it to a third party — which can destroy the confidentiality that protects you. We cannot guarantee attorney-client privilege over information you share with a consumer AI tool, even if you also share it with us.
To keep your information protected:
If you have already used a consumer AI tool in connection with your matter, please tell your attorney. It is almost always something we can work around — but only if we know.
We are seeing a growing number of clients arrive with questions, theories, or “research” generated by a consumer AI tool — and much of it is wrong. AI tools routinely invent legal rules, cite cases that do not exist, misstate Virginia and federal law, and confidently produce analysis that has no basis in reality. They are designed to sound authoritative, not to be correct.
Please understand:
We are genuinely happy to explain the law, your options, and our strategy. That is what you hired us to do. But our job is to give you accurate advice based on the facts of your case and the actual law that applies to it — not to debug an AI’s hallucinations.
If you have questions about the tools we use, how your information is handled, or any concerns about this policy, please contact us at Admin@AFMorganLaw.com or reach out to your attorney directly.
This page describes our general practices and is not legal advice or a substitute for the terms of your engagement letter. We update this policy from time to time as our tools and the underlying technology evolve.
